About Us
Steam Operations Corporation was created in 1993 by Scott Lindsay. The company's purpose is to address the need for experienced, responsible, and dedicated management of the restoration, rebuilding, and operation of steam locomotives. Scott was involved in the rebuilding of nearly every locomotive that has played a role in the modern mainline excursion era, dating back to the Chessie Steam Special of 1977-1978. Scott was able create a firm grounded in experience gained as a result of dedicated mainline operations.
The firm has grown to encompass virtually every aspect of steam locomotive rebuilding, restoration, and operation. SOC specializes in machining capabilities, with an emphasis on running gear components, engineering services, accredited ultrasonic testing services for boilers, and locomotive parts replication. Our expertise also includes turntable and other historic railroad collections restoration. The Steam Operations team is made up of some of the foremost experts in the industry, and is proud to be able to offer services in every field related to steam locomotive preservation and operations.
